St Martin is the French side of the island and is well known for, what else? The food.

Welcome to St Martin

St Martin is the French side of the island that shares territory with the Dutch St Maarten.

The mash-up of two great cultures served up on one island gives travelers a chance to experience the fine food and shopping that the French are famous for, with the lose and playful nature of the Dutch - more than a dozen casinos are located on the island, all in St Maarten.

Is it really any wonder that the quip "Eat on the French side, play on the Dutch" is about as good advice you can get?

It goes without saying that the French love the beach and the freedom that water, wind and waves affords. Topless bathing is common on all the French beaches, and the most popular beach on the island is Orient Beach on the northeast coast - au natural bathing is allowed at this beach.

Deep sea fishing charters are run out of Philipsburg.
